Spa Track Launches New RFID Surgical Instrument Auto-Scanner
Healthcare technology specialists Spa Track Medical Limited announced earlier today the launch of their next generation RFID hospital scanner for surgical instrument tracking. The hi-tech innovators, well known for driving key changes in the way surgical instruments are tracked in Europe, offer a complete solution that has been designed in close consultation with surgeons, theatre nurses and sterilisation experts in hospitals.
Their new high-performance, table-top auto-scanner has a bi-directional, rotary scanning mechanism and represents a huge, global step forward scanning a complete basket of instruments in just 12 seconds, accurately identifying the unique ID of each item. Versions of the device designed for automatically scanning larger baskets (up to 100 instruments) are also available.
The device automatically scans every instrument and gives the user full data management of the tray set, all instruments, missing instruments and the history of every instrument. The scanner can be incorporated into existing hospital asset tracking systems and become the brainhub for faster instrument cleaning cycles. The compact size enables the application of automatic instrument checking in operating theatres, significant savings in nurse labour, speeding up theatre output, and eliminating instrument errors in theatre practice. The high throughput rate also makes the scanner ideal for Cleaning Unit applications, reducing errors, reducing the operator training resulting in shorter cleaning cycles.
At a time when global healthcare providers are already encountering severe cutbacks due to difficult economic conditions there is also an urgent need to improve patient safety as the sector expects a significant increase in surgical requirements from an ageing population. Current processes for tracking the surgical instruments around the world are highly inadequate and healthcare providers responsible for carrying out surgical procedures face some serious global issues.
The new auto-scanner is part of the patented Spa Track technology family which when combined with their latest range of RFID Sensor Pods and proven tracking software form the basis for a very effective instrument tracking system which provides a platform of the new generation of healthcare management requirements.
